Namibia’s Minister of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform, ARL Hermann Gustav Schlettwein, has called for immediate action to address the country’s severe drought during a World Food Programme (WFP) Executive Board meeting.
Speaking at the opening session last week, Schlettwein underscored the critical importance of water resources in Namibia, stating that funding water projects is essential for the nation’s development. He emphasised prioritising such investments over conflict and urged the international community to support these initiatives.
The WFP’s Country Strategic Plan for Namibia (2025-2029) will be presented to the Executive Board for approval later this week. This plan, developed with input from various Namibian government ministries, aligns with the country’s goal of eradicating poverty and hunger. It aims to strengthen food security systems, social protection programs, and emergency preparedness measures to ensure that vulnerable populations receive adequate support
