In a poignant display of remembrance and national pride, the Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy hosted a ceremonial tree planting on Tuesday, 14 May 2025, in honor of Namibia’s Founding Father, His Excellency Dr. Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy, Hon. Natangue Ithete, MP, delivered a heartfelt address, reflecting on the life and legacy of Dr. Nujoma, whose vision laid the foundation for Namibia’s liberation and progress.
“Tree planting is more than a symbolic act. It is a powerful gesture of growth, continuity, and remembrance,” Hon. Ithete stated. “Just as Dr. Nujoma planted the seed of freedom, today we sow a living tribute one that will grow and stand tall for generations, just like his enduring legacy.”
The ceremony served as a reminder of Dr. Nujoma’s commitment not only to national unity and justice but also to sustainable development and environmental stewardship. As the nation celebrates his contributions, the Ministry emphasized the importance of aligning with the values he championed peace, unity, diligence, and service.
“Dr. Nujoma and the heroes of our liberation delivered political independence,” said Hon. Ithete. “It is now our responsibility, as a Ministry and as a nation, to deliver economic independence. This tree is a symbol of that next chapter a greener, more prosperous Namibia.”
Attended by ministry staff, stakeholders, and members of the media, the event underscored a collective dedication to nation-building, not only through industrial growth but also through environmental consciousness. The Ministry called on all Namibians to continue nurturing the land that sustains them and to uphold the principles Dr. Nujoma stood for.
As the newly planted tree takes root on the ministry grounds, it becomes a living monument growing as the nation grows, a quiet but resilient reminder of a leader whose legacy remains deeply rooted in the Namibian soil.
